Velma Jean Stout, 86, of Barton City, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Flint. Born August 8, 1935, to Steve and Hazel (Bailey) Katona in Mikado, MI, she has been a lifelong resident of the area. On December 19, 1953, she married Eugene L. Stout in Barton City. Velma was a clerk with the United States Postal Service for many years. In 1975 she became Postmaster of the Barton City Post Office and retired 28 years later. She was a charter member of the Barton City Eagles Aerie 4141, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Velma enjoyed sewing, BINGO, travel, camping, trips to the casino, golfing, and deer hunting with her family. She was known for her sweet tooth and enjoyed her candy. Velma is survived by her husband Eugene, her daughter, Patricia (Steve Tokar) Baisch of Flint, her sister-in-law, Jo An Katona as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Harold Baisch, and her brother Gerald Katona. A memorial service will be held in the spring. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery, Barton City. Arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.
