Raymond Wm. Chase, 84, of Lincoln, went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2024. Raymond passed away peacefully with the loving care of his family and the caring staff at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland.
Born in Flint, on February 17, 1940 to Cletus and Betty (Tinney) Chase, Raymond started his life in Montrose and then moved to Roscommon.
Raymond graduated from Roscommon High School in 1958 and enjoyed attending class reunions every year.
After High School, Ray worked for his father in construction, building houses in Roscommon. Ray then went on to work for the Department of Natural Resources in 1968 as a Conservation Crew Foreman. He was promoted to General Foreman at Camp Shawano Boys Camp, a position he loved until it was dropped from the Parks Division. He then ran the sign shop at Hartwick Pines State Park, then transferred to Oscoda as a Water Sites Supervisor for the Waterways Division until he retired after 24 years of service in 1992.
Ray grew up hunting and fishing at Higgins Lake. He and his brother Bob hunted for over fifty years together. Ray was active in Alcona Habitat for Humanity for twenty years. He started with overseeing the first Habitat house construction and then as head of the family selection committee. Ray was also an active member of Mikado Church of Christ.
Ray enjoyed the home he built, where he could enjoy the beauty and benefits of nature, and the birds he loved to feed everyday. Ray also enjoyed his family get-togethers, his Mikado Church of Christ family, playing Euchre with his buddies, and playing Euchre at the ACCOA Senior Center.
Raymond is survived by his brother, Robert (Linda) Chase, his children, Debra (John) McClarren, Bradley (Katherine) Chase, and Vicky Chase, grandchildren, Craig (Yanzi) McClarren, Ashley (Orlando) Figueiredo, Brent McClarren, Scott (Ginny) McClarren, and Ellen Doherty, as well as great grandchildren, Chase, Madylin, Zora, Rylee, Adellie, Isabel, Marley, Gabriel, Maverick, Joey, Frankie, and Sophia, great great grandson Rhett, and nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind many friends Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Legg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Mikado Goodfellows or the Mikado Church of Christ.
Mr. Chase is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where visitation will take place on Thursday, June 27, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be at the funeral home, Friday, June 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Char McGuire will officiate. Burial will be in Gerrish Township Cemetery.
