Norma Jean Somers

Norma Jean Somers, 86, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Michigan Medicine Hospital in Ann Arbor. Born March 18, 1936, to Edison J. and Margaret (Wilson) Hart in Alpena, MI, she was raised in Saginaw and in Lincoln. On February 25, 1956, she married Richard Somers in Lincoln. She worked at Harrisville Manufacturing, and for many years as a waitress at Lost Lake Woods Club. Norma was known as the “Popcorn Lady” at the Lincoln Elementary School, where she volunteered. She enjoyed trips to the casino and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Most of all, she loved sports, especially watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren compete. Norma is survived by her five children, Bambi (Brad) Stewart, Vickie (Phil) Phillips, Timothy (Roxanne) Somers, Shawn (Nancy) Somers, and Terri (Clint) Woods, eight grandchildren, Sumer Makela, Shawna Bethuy, Chad Stewart, Charina Dellar, Kyle Somers, Ryan Somers, Paige Woods, and Cierra Woods, ten great grandchildren, Zeth, Carmen, Will, Gavin, Nora, Keaton, Amelia, Kennedy, Mariah, and C.J., three sisters, Marge Karsen, Mary Karsen, and Glady, McKay, and two brothers, Pete and Jim Hart, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick on March 9, 2018, and her sister, Alyce Whipple. Norma’s family will receive visitors on Saturday, July 2, 2022, from 11:00 AM until the memorial service at 1:00 PM at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.
