Margaret A. “Peg” Beard, 100, of Lincoln, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Lincoln Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. She was born November 7, 1920 to William and Anna (Lees) Walker in Prospect Park, PA, she was raised in Detroit and Northville. When growing up she enjoyed riding horses that her family owned and competed in local speed pattern racing, jumping, and timed games on horseback called gymkhanas. She married Paul Beard in November of 1940 in Northville. Mrs. Beard was a homemaker who had a strong faith, loved nature and enjoyed visiting the Hubbard Lake area while her family was growing up. In the mid-1960s the Beards moved to Alcona County. Peg was an active member of the Lincoln United Methodist Church and of its Women’s group. She was a Quester, a national historic antique group, and a member of the Alcona Historical Society. She enjoyed traveling, reading, bridge clubs, and doing needlework. Peg is survived by four children, Nancy Smith, Paul “Ed” Beard, Catherine “Kate” (Jon) Kaake, and Michael A. Beard, seven grandchildren, James, Margo, Marshall, Jennifer, Rebecca, Hillary, and Alex, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 2003, one sister Ida Eaton and one brother William L. Walker. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorial donations are suggested to the Lincoln United Methodist Church.
