Lorraine Geneva Howitson, 100, passed away June 8, 2020 at her home in Gustin Township, Michigan She was born July 21, 1919 to Albert and Janet (McFarlane) Procunier in Gustin Township, Michigan. She attended the Wilson School, a one room neighborhood school, through the 8th grade, then graduated in 1937 from Oscoda High School. On June 9, 1945, she married Cyril Howitson in Lansing, Michigan. She worked for many years as a legal secretary, first from 1937-1939 in attorney William R. Barber's office in Harrisville, then after moving to Lansing, working for the rest of her career in the Michigan Auditor General's Department, several private law firms and in the State Court Administrative Office of the Michigan Supreme Court. After returning to Alcona County in 1972, she worked in the Alcona County Clerk's office until her retirement in 1983. She enjoyed reading, researching family and local history, cooking, gardening, travelling, visits from friends and neighbors, and enjoying the peaceful views from her home. Lorraine is survived by her daughter Brenda (Michael) Steeves of Gorham, Maine; many cousins in Alcona County, Washington state and Ontario, Canada; several Howitson family cousins, nieces and nephews; and treasured caregivers, especially Carol and Tony Henson, and friends who provided wonderful care and companionship and stood in for family who could not be with her at her death due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Cyril, in 1993, and her sister Lavigne Phyllis Schiller in 2015. Funeral arrangements: No services will be held at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
