The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Maple Ridge Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Barton City Eagles Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Alcona County Humane Society. Lois Loyd, 89, of Chesaning Michigan, passed away peacefully on Friday February 25, 2022, in Chesaning, Michigan. Lois was born October 8, 1932, to the late Arthur and Cecilia Hawn in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Redford High School in Detroit and attended the Detroit College of Business and Alpena Community College. On January 13, 1956, she married James Loyd in Angola, Indiana. She resided in Detroit before relocating to Barton City, Michigan in 1971. Lois worked as a bookkeeper at Ray’s Specialized Welding in Barton City. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Barton City Eagles Aerie 4141, where she served as Secretary for over 10 years. Lois is survived by her sister-in-law Grace Hawn, her four children: Kathy Lloyd of Saginaw, MI; James (Diane) Loyd of Chesaning, MI; John Loyd of Edgewater, FL; Karen (Brian) MacMaster of Laingsburg, MI. She is survived by seven grandchildren (Melanie, Melissa, Megan, Kaley, Dylan, Stefen and Nolan) and 10 great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her husband James in 2009, her parents, and her brother Arthur Hawn Jr. Lois instilled within her children a love of learning and sense of adventure. She had a keen interest in space exploration beginning with the first American in space in 1961 and continuing through recent advances in 2021. She was known among our Detroit friends as “the mom who was always practicing yoga” and promoted a lifelong passion for exercise: golfing, biking, ice-skating, cross-country skiing and continuing to go on walks until only recently. Lois was immensely proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They remember spending countless hours coloring with grandma and her love of coloring continued throughout her life. Lois will be most remembered by friends and family for her unbridled compassion for animals. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln, MI. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations are suggested to the Alcona Humane Society or All Valley Home Health & Valley Hospice Care of Saginaw.
