Harrisville

John F. Garrity, 96, of Harrisville, MI and Bradenton, FL passed away peacefully in his home on March 28th, 2024 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his daughters Dr. Patricia Garrity of Chester, VA and Kimberly (Dr. Daniel) Harber of Harrisville, MI and grandchildren Lauren (Kyle) Kittleson and Daniel Harber as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Jackie, his wife of 69 years, and his 5 siblings. John started his college studies at the young age of 16. He served 2 years in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He continued his studies in accounting and business, graduating from Michigan State University as a proud Spartan and member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity. He graciously expanded his support to include the Wolverines and Gators as family members took on additional college loyalties. In Michigan, John worked for Alcoa Aluminum and Artco. He moved to Hollywood, FL in 1969 as comptroller for the development of the Opal Towers complex on Hillsborough Beach. He concluded his career with 13 years of service to the MacArthur Foundation, retiring in 1993. In retirement, John and Jackie enjoyed splitting their time between Harrisville, MI and Bradenton, FL. His favorite pastimes were spending time with family and friends, golf, manicuring the lawn and lakefront, serving as a local event volunteer, and a little more golf. A Celebration of Life accompanied by mass at St. Anne’s in Harrisville is planned for the summer.
