Joanne Groves

Joanne Serrill (Burdick) Groves, 88, on Thursday, August 29, 2019 went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ.  Joanne was living at the Lincoln Haven Nursing Home in Lincoln, Michigan.   She grew up in Birmingham, Michigan.  She went through secretarial school and worked many years at the Pontiac County courthouse.  Her last employment was at the Alpena Community College.   She was an avid reader, enjoyed snowmobiling, watching U of M football, playing cards, Friday night dancing and spending time at home with her family.     Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, George and Francis Burdick, her brothers George Burdick and Hank Burdick.  She also was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Monroe and her grandson Joey Bergum.    Her youngest brother Tom and his wife Peggy Burdick reside in Erie, MI.   Joanne was married to Gene Monroe and lived in Commerce, MI and they had 3 children, Catherine Bergum, Jeffrey Monroe and Laura Denhart. Catherine lives in St. Paul, MN, her children include, Jody (Jon) Millsaps, Joey Bergum, Jenny (Josh) Koch and Andrea Ashton.  Her late son Jeffrey is survived by his wife Becky who lives in Spruce, MI. Their 4 children are, Josh, JJ, Joanna and Joel.  Laura is married to Roger Denhart and lives in Saint Joseph, IL, and her children include, Brooke Steinman and Jeffrey (Nicky) Steinman.  Joanne had 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.   Later in her life she was married to Dave Groves and moved to South Lyon and they had a son Phredd Groves.  Phredd lives in California.   A gravesite memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Joanne in South Lyon, MI at the South Lyon Cemetery on Friday, October 18 at 2:00pm.  The service will be led by Rev. Alan Conrow of the Fellowship Evangelical Presbyterian Church of South Lyon, MI where Joanne was a member.  Family and friends are invited to a meal following the service.
