5/21/21 – Jeanette Louise Alexander Read, known as “Jean” passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family. She was born in Flint, Michigan on October 18, 1942 to Guy and Cecil Alexander. She worked for IMA, Wally’s, Carman Glass Company, and Read Advertising before retiring to Northern Michigan with her Husband William John Read Jr. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her friends and family. She was the Past President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Aerie 4141 in Barton City, MI. She was an active member of the Chatham County Democrats. She was the matriarch of her family and enjoyed being active in her community. She was preceded in death by her husband William John Read Jr, her parents Guy Alexander and Cecil Alexander, her brother Darell Alexander, and her sister Barbara Alexander Velasquez. Surviving is her sister, Sandra Bader of Sun City Center, FL and brother Gerald (Barb) Alexander of Owosso, MI. Surviving are her children Carman (Keith) Purtee of Brooklet, GA, Jeff (Wendy) Foster of Clio, MI, and Clayton “Buzzy” (Sherry) Foster Jr of Barton City, MI. Her grandchildren are Kurtis Purtee, Crystal Leeseberg, Keaton Foster, Chelsea Foster, Austin Foster, and David Hunt. She had many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family is planning a private service at this time. Any donations may be sent to the Women’s Auxiliary of the Barton City Eagles Aerie 4141.
