Janice E. Burns, 90, of Barton City, passed away Monday, September 9, 2024 at her home.
Born September 4, 1934 to Rev. John and Gertrude (Austerberry) Meredith in Owosso, MI, she was raised in Flint and Marquette, MI. After high school, Janice moved to Redford, and attended Detroit Business Institute. She worked as a secretary for General Motors, and later left the position to raise her family. On July 19, 1958, she married Ronald R. Burns in Flint. They resided in Flint and Flushing, and moved to Barton City in 2018. Janice enjoyed baking, and was known for her homemade pies. She liked gardening, fishing, canoeing, and camping trips with her grandchildren.
Janice is survived by her husband, Ronald Sr., her daughter, Catherine (Peter) Ostrander, her son Ronald (Nadine) Burns Jr., four grandchildren, David (Gina) Burns, Nicholas Ostrander (Leigha Brown), Ryan Ostrander, and Alexandra (Brandon) Chaney, her great grandson, Charlie Chaney, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and close friends from Flushing. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Burns, her sister, Edna Cook, and three brothers, John, Neil, and Harold Meredith.
Janice is at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln, where visitation will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 11:00 AM until the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Rev. Reeve Segrest will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery, Barton City. Memorial donations are suggested to the Children’s Miracle Network, Hurley Children’s Hospital.
