James L. Gauthier, 85, of Black River, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Medilodge of Alpena. Born July 2, 1933 to Adolf and Mulvena (LaVigne) Gauthier in Black River, he was a resident of the area for most of his life. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954. On March 22, 1986, he married Sandy Gagnon in Harrisville. Jim worked in the logging industry and did television repairs. He delivered The Alpena News for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and trips to the casino. Jim was a former member of the Spruce VFW and of the Ossineke Eagles. He is survived by his wife, Sandy, two daughters, Michelle (Michael) Grappin of Metamora MI, and Amanda Gauthier of Bradenton FL, three step children, Debra Compeau of Spruce, Daniel Olson of Black River, and Douglas Olson of Spruce, 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister, Loretta Baxter, and three brothers, Clifford (Delores), Everett and Bernard Gauthier, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Snyder in 1982, his son, David, a step son-in-law, James Compeau, four sisters, Josephine McLennon, Delema Potvin, Pauline Retherford and Yvonne Bouchard, and eight brothers, Paul Cadieux, Benjamin, Hector, Joseph, Fredrick, Ernie, Hank and Edward Gauthier. Mr. Gauthier is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where friends may call of Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 2:00 until 7:00 PM, with a Parish Prayer Service led by Rev. Robert Bissot at 4:00 PM.
