Gertrude Rose Ward, 85, of Mikado, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024 at her home. 

Born January 28, 1939 to William and Marion (McGuire) Fowler in Killmaster, she was raised there. On February 12, 1955, she married Melvin J. Ward in Killmaster. They were residents of Flint, where they raised their family, and retired to Mikado in 1988. Gertrude was an active member of the Solid Rock Church of God, and of its Ladies Auxiliary. A devoted homemaker, Gertie was a gentle caregiver to several area residents. She was a great cook, and was known for her delicious apple cobbler and baked beans among other family favorites. She enjoyed garage sales and shopping at thrift stores. 

Gertie is survived by her husband, Melvin, two daughters, Brenda (David) Hammon and Patricia (Craig) Beins, her son, Melvin D. Ward, ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lucinda Ward, her great grandson, and many brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Ward is at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln, where visitation will take place on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 1:00 PM until the funeral service at 3:00 PM. Pastor Wayne Ramey will officiate. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice Compassus.
