Fred Thompson Jr., 83, of Harrisville, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at MidMichigan Medical Center in Alpena. Born December 19, 1938, to Fred and Ionia (Clark) Thompson Sr., in Mikado, MI, he has been a lifelong resident of the area. Fred graduated from Oscoda High School in 1958 and served in the U.S. Navy. On August 19, 1961, he married Janet Deller in Mikado. Fred was a hardworking man who always provided for his family. He was a Heavy Equipment Operator for Saginaw Asphalt and was a member of the Steelworkers Local #324. He did snow removal for Wurtsmith Air Force Base and was a key operator for the DNR for 40 years. He attended Calvary Baptist Church. Fred enjoyed woodworking, gardening, especially his multiple flower beds. He also liked hunting, trips to the casino, jigsaw puzzles and most of all spending time with his family. Fred is survived by his wife, Janet, two daughters, Sheri Fettes and Lori Seymour (Mark Freske), many nieces and nephews, his special cousin Fern Young, special kids who were close to his heart, Danica and Rylee Manning who called him Papa, Christopher and Chad Fettes and Jordin and Justin Seymour-Casebier who called him Uncle Freddie, and Lilah Ann Ridley who called him G Pa. He was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, James Fettes and David Seymour, his parents, his sister, Zelpha Lakeman, and four brothers, Lowell, Eddie, Abe, and Hank Thompson. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the Mikado Civic Center. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and the service will start at 12:00 PM. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. Memorial donations are suggested to the Mikado Goodfellows.
