Eugene C. Skotzke

Eugene C. Skotzke, 82, of Spruce, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021 at his home. Born July 23, 1939, to Chester F. and Mary (Petoskey) Skotzke in Detroit, MI, he was raised there. Gene served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked many years as a Detroit Police Officer and retired to Spruce in 1988. On August 22, 1998, he married Diana Chase in Harrisville. Gene was a devout Catholic, who loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Marine Corps League 1327 Alpena Detachment, the VFW Alpena Post 2496, the American Legion Alpena Post 65, and the Ossineke Eagles Club #3762. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time on Hubbard Lake. Gene is survived by his wife, Diana, his son, Francis A. (Lysbeth) Skotzke, two grandchildren, Tracy (Jeremy) Alter and Robert (Ashley) Skotzke, two great grandchildren, Jeremy and Evan Alter, three stepdaughters, Lisa Carlson (Marty Cunningham), Lori (Gary) Carlson, and Lorna (Robert) Reidy, numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, three sisters, Janet Wearing, Geraldine (Al) Bojakowski, and Marianne Krueger, and one brother, Larry (Theresa) Skotzke. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. There will be a Celebration of Life, along with full Military honors on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 3:00 PM at the Ossineke Eagles Club, 6848 N US23, Spruce, MI 48762.
