Etta Mae (Hickey) Gawthrop, age 78, formerly of Mikado and Ossineke, Michigan, passed away on October 23, 2023 in Louisville, Kentucky. She graduated from Alpena High School and studied at Graceland University. Sadly, a mere five days after her death, on October 28, her son, James, died from cancer at the age of 51. Etta Mae is survived by her daughters, Rachel Dee Ford and Venus Gawthrop, her daughter-in-law, Margaret Gawthrop, her grandchildren, Jamie and Sarah, her nieces, Vicky, Melissa and Kimberly, her nephews, Randy, Jim, Brian and Bradley, her sisters-in-law, Toby and Carolyn and many loving cousins.
Etta Mae was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Ottis Gawthrop, Her parents, Laurence and Frances (Rapson) Hickey, and her loving sisters, Elsie Edith (Hickey) Rhode and Mary Ann (Hickey) Ritthaler and her grandson, Jeremy.
Etta Mae had a sweet and gentle spirit and a kind and giving nature. She practiced her faith both inside and outside of the church that she and George attended and loved. We loved her smile, her giggle, and her wonderful sense of humor. She was very much loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Her funeral was held at Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home West in Louisville, Kentucky on November 1, 2023.
Graveside services will be held Friday, November 10, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Mikado Township Cemetery.
