Ernest R. Delgado

Ernest R. Delgado, 82, of Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at his home. Born February 20, 1940, to Ernest and Trinidad (Chaigres) Delgado in Saginaw, MI, he was raised in Ecorse. Ernie served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne. He was a longtime resident of the Down River area and was a founding member of the Southgate Community Players. He was a Boy Scout leader and coached his kid’s baseball teams. Ernie was a skilled welder and worked and taught at Great Lakes Steel. He also taught welding at Wayne County Community College. On September 20, 1984, he married Judith Foss Edwards in Dearborn. Ernie retired in 1993, and moved to Lost Lake Woods Club in 2000, where he had been a longtime member. Ernie and Judy enjoyed traveling, taking trips with a fifth wheel to Alaska, Mexico, and throughout the United States. They enjoyed winters in Florida. Ernie was a talented artist and enjoyed painting and sculpting. He was a sign maker, and much of his work can be seen throughout Alcona County. Ernie is survived by his wife, Judy, nine children, Ernest (Deborah) Delgado, Antonio Delgado, Belinda (James) Elliott, Rick (Summer Pafford) Delgado, Deanna Delgado, Daniel Delgado, David (Zeke Borrego) Delgado, Stephania (Matthew) Cecil, and Cara ( Andy Casali) Edwards, 12 grandchildren, Nichole (Mark) Landis, Nina Rodrigues, Heather (Josh) Fratangelo, Antonio Delgado II, Phillip (Adrian) Czabot, Brittany Delgado, Miranda (Rick) Avila, Sky Delgado, Donte Delgado, Elyana Cecil, Caden Heflin, and Luciano Casali, 14 great grandchildren, one sister, Margo (Dean) Germaine, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Delgado, and his brother, Henry Delgado. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Lost Lake Woods Club. Memorial donations are suggested to PBS Television. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
