Elwood Dean MacKinnon

Elwood Dean MacKinnon, 91, of Spruce, MI, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Besser Senior Living in Alpena. Born March 10, 1931 to Laughlin and Grace (Evans) McKinnon in Alpena, MI, he was a lifelong resident of Spruce. Dean owned and operated MacKinnon Poultry Farm and Feed Store. In 1953, he married Joan Mapes. Dean was a bus driver for Alcona Community Schools and worked as a truck driver. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Caledonia Township Board of Review, the Alcona FFA, the VFW, and of the Farm Bureau. Dean is survived by two daughters, Margie (Alan) Gohl and Denise (Glenn) McConnell, one son, Rodney (Pamela) MacKinnon, nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and his longtime companion, Pat Lehman. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan, and two brothers, Hector and Arnold McKinnon. Visitation will be Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Spruce Presbyterian Church from 10:00 AM until the memorial service at 11:00 AM. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
