Edward R. Schmidt

Edward R. Schmidt, 86, of Harrisville, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Maple Grove Adult Foster Care in Barton City. Ed was born March 1, 1937 to Ruben and Mabel (Walther) Schmidt in Minnesota. He served in the United States Air Force and retired in 1975. He enjoyed the out of doors, including hunting, panning for gold, rock hunting, planting flowers, and most of all, fishing. He was an avid coin collector. Ed is survived by three children, Joe (Josephine) Schmidt Sr., Antonette Schmidt, and Annette Lee, 12 grandchildren, Joe Schmidt Jr., Chris (Krystal) Schmidt, Amber Schmidt, Cassandra Lambert, Lance (Teagon) Mendyka, and Ryan (Sandy) Mendyka, Kaylee and Darrian Pyscher, Josh and Shawn Booth, Ashley Morang, and Stephanie (Joshua) Smith, 11 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild on the way, three step children, Sheri (William) DeSmet, Cindy MacNeill, and Arnold (Lorna) Dellar, 16 step grandchildren, and one sister. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diana Orban, his grandson, Chad Killen, and several siblings. Visitation will be Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 11:00 AM until the funeral service at 2:00 PM at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.
