Edmund E. DeSmet, 86, of Lincoln, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Lincoln Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. He was born March 5, 1933 to Emil and Irma (Verkenderen) DeSmet in Troy, MI. Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955. On October 1, 1956 he married Patricia Jean Gwynn in Howell, MI. Ed worked as a mechanic for General Motors. They were longtime residents of Howell and moved to Harrisville in 1978. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Mikado. Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4235 and of the Fourth Degree. He was a former Lincoln Lion. He enjoyed “tinkering” and was often found working in his garage. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling. Edmund is survived by six children, JoAnne Marie (Michael) Waldoff, Barbara Ann (Richard) Ouillet, William James (Sheri) DeSmet, Edmund Edward (Susan) DeSmet Jr., Patrick Michael DeSmet, and Tracy Stouten, 12 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one brother, Morris DeSmet. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Patricia, on December 4, 2018, his infant son, Edmund Edward DeSmet Jr., his sister Mary Felty, and two brothers, Joe and Albert DeSmet. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 14, 2019 at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Mikado. Rev. Robert Bissot will officiate. Burial will be in St. Raphael Catholic Cemetery. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
