Earl S. Cordes, 94, of Oscoda and Maybee Mi. passed away peacefully Friday, July 23, 2021, at his daughter’s home. Born June 27, 1927 to Archie and Mary (McGregor) Cordes in Barton City, he was raised there. Earl served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korea. He worked for the Detroit Free Press as a distribution agent. Earl played baseball in Barton City and was inducted into the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame on May 4, 2018. He enjoyed horseshoes and every year there is a tournament played in his honor in Barton City. He liked bowling, golfing, playing cards and hunting. He enjoyed his time at the Willis, Dundee and Milan Senior Centers. And family game night every Friday. Earl is survived by his three children, Bonnie (Al) Ilicin of Maybee, MI, Jo (Richard) Overstreet of Lubbock TX, and Mike (Jill) Cordes of Lubbock TX, 6 grandchildren, Jami (Duane) Benoil of Tecumseh MI, Jo (Jon) Meads of Milan, MI, Jessi (Steve) Tola of Toledo OH, Casi (Cory) Sullivan of Lubbock TX, Cori Overstreet of Austin TX, Bayli Cordes of Lubbock TX, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and special friend Joyce Beck. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
