Diane L. Carroll

Diane L. Carroll, 81, of Harrisville, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023, at her home. Born February 1, 1942, to George and Magella (LaLonde) LePlae in Detroit, MI, she was raised there and in Grosse Pointe. On August 27, 1966, she married J. Thomas Carroll Jr. in Grosse Pointe Woods. They moved to Harrisville in 1976. Diane was an educator for over 30 years in early education, specializing in preschool and kindergarten. She proudly established the Alcona County Co-Op Nursery School, which still operates today. Diane retired from Alcona Community Schools in 2003. She was devoted to her family and loved her grandchildren dearly. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Harrisville. She proudly served on the Harrisville City Council and was a longtime member of the Harrisville Arts Council. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and looking out at Lake Huron. Diane is survived by her daughter, Colleen Carroll, two sons, James T. (Christy) Carroll III, and Mathias (Jennifer) Carroll, nine grandchildren, Emily, Beck, and Madison Carroll, Maddie and Jaxson LeMieux, Rebecca and Caleb Dral, and Elliot and Rachael Matayek, her sister, Denise (Lance) Olson, her brother, Richard LePlae, a wonderful group of in-laws, including Lois and Jack Dunn, Maureen Cameron, and John and Mary Carroll, as well as many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, on June 1, 2015, and by her infant son, Peter Carroll. Mrs. Carroll is at Gillies Funeral Home, Harrisville, where visitation will be Friday, August 4, 2023, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 10:00 AM until the funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church in Harrisville. Burial will be in St. Anne Catholic Cemetery, Harrisville. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Harrisville Arts Council or the Alcona County Friends of the Library.
