Carl E. Buchner, 76, of Harrisville, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Born November 10, 1947 to Alfred and Mary (Apsey) Buchner in Harrisville, he has been a lifelong resident of the area. Carl graduated from Alcona High School in 1964. He attended Alpena Community College, and graduated from Michigan State University in 1968 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dairy Science. Together with his father Alfred, and brother Bill, Carl owned and operated Buchner Farms in Harrisville. He had a love for local history, and was active in the refurbishing of the Lincoln and Harrisville Train Depots, Serradella Farms, and many other historical sites in the area. He supported many area youth through 4H. He was an avid baseball fan, deer hunter, and was always in pursuit of large trees. He was a houndsman, and loved chasing coons, fox and coyotes. Carl was a member of the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Lincoln, where he had served as the treasurer and secretary.
Although Carl had no children of his own, he went out of his way to be a special uncle to his many nieces and nephews, as well as, neighborhood kids and friends. ‘Uncle Carl’ was a friend to, and supporter of, youngsters wherever he went. He loved his cows and his father had always said, “Carl would be there to milk the cows if he had to crawl on his belly.” He cherished his hounds and they never missed a meal or spent an unnecessary night in the woods. Carl loved the woods of Alcona County and his time there pursuing The Big Buck. He collected Savage rifles which were the family favorite. He was a natural comic and loved to joke and share a story. In the end, one of his favorite activities was to host friends, family and fellow hunters at his camp in Harrisville and to share a beer, burger and conversation.
Carl is survived by two brothers, Alfred “Bud” (Sharon) Buchner of Reedsville, WI, and William Buchner of Lincoln, nineteen nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews, numerous Apsey and Buchner cousins, his sister-in-law, Pauline (Robert) Buchner, as well as his long time friend, Delores Schlicker. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Margie (Elmer) Meden, Evelyn (Ed) Wall and Beverly (Syd) Cook, his brother, Robert Buchner, his niece Cheryl (Buchner) Streckert, and his nephew Robert Buchner of Wisconsin.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Lincoln, from 1:30 PM until the funeral service at 3:00 PM. Rev. David Putz will officiate. Burial will be in Springport Cemetery, Harrisville. Memorial donations are suggested to Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, or to the Alcona County Commission on Aging.
