Bernice (Betty) Grzeskowiak, 90, of Harrisville, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

 

Betty was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on June 30, 1933 to Chuck and Bernice (Gazdowicz) Lapczynski.  She married John Grzeskowiak, her high school sweetheart and they resided in a house that he built. They were married for over 40 years until John’s death in 1995. Bernice worked in the mortgage department at Guarantee Federal until the family moved to Harrisville in 1969.  She worked as a secretary for the Department of Natural Resources at Harrisville State Park until she retired in 1995.  Bernice was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Harrisville.  She loved cardinals, the sound of the waves, and the laughter of friends and family.  She was proud of her Polish heritage and taught her children and grandchildren the special Polish recipes that she learned from her mother.

 

Bernice is survived by her two daughters, Jacquie (Robert) Marx and Colleen (Mick) Higgins, five grandchildren, Nathan, Brittany, Jordan, Morgan and Brenton, seven great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her son Kenneth, and her two siblings. 

 

Bernice is at Gillies Funeral Home, 104 W. Alger Street, Lincoln, Michigan 48742 where visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30 from 3:00 p.m. until the Rosary service at 7:00 p.m.  Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Harrisville with Rev. Lawrence Boks officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Joy Cemetery in Haynes Township.
