Alfred James “Jim” Perkins, 68, of Glennie died on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at home.

He was born in Flushing, Mich. on October 2, 1956, to Adrian Belding and Catherine Elizabeth (Gonyea) Perkins Sr. He was raised in Killmaster and Glennie.

He attended Oscoda High School. He always had an interest in any type of boat and made a career out of it.

Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Oakridge ARDM-1 at Rota, Spain.

He worked on barges and tug boats on the Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi River for many years. When he returned to the area, he was a park ranger at Old Orchard Park in Oscoda.

Recently, Mr. Perkins attended the Great Lakes Boat Building School in Cedarville, Mich., something he always wanted to do.

Mr. Perkins is survived by one daughter, Laurie Perkins of Jacksonville, Fla.; five brothers, Richard (Cindy) Perkins of Barton City, Roger (Carolyn) Perkins of Glennie, Adrian “Butch” (Teresa) Perkins Jr. of Glennie, Michael (Karen) Perkins of Glennie, and Matthew (Christine) Perkins of Glennie; and four sisters, Marilyn (James) Brown of Glennie, Andrea (Robert) Perkins Waring of Kingsbury, Texas, Barbara (Jerome) Orefice of Glennie, and Bonnie (Chris Rice) Perkins of Glennie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Robert Perkins and Bryan Perkins (infant).

Services and burial will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements were handled by Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
