Fern Hawes

Fern Hawes, 85 of Barton City died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at Lincoln Haven Health and Rehabilitation Community. Born December 15, 1921 to William and Ruth (Thurston) Durr in Stanford, Illinois, she was raised there and in Chicago. On May 28, 1941 Fern married Clarence Hawes in Harrisville. In 1943 they moved to Barton City. Fern was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Barton City and also was a volunteer for the Alcona Cancer Society. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 22, 1984, her granddaughter, Amber Wardwell, her daughter in law Janice Hawes and her brother Hershell Durr. Fern is survived by her daughter, Carol (Guy D.) Hill of Gaylord; two sons, Kenneth of Bay City and William (Nita) of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee; 7 grandchildren, Kevin, Richard, Michael, Venita, Stephanie, Renee and David; 14 great grandchildren; 3 sisters in law, Edith VonFintel, Daisy Durr and Jean Hawes. Friends may call on Saturday, February 10th at 10:00 AM until the funeral at 1:00 P.M. at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln with Rev. Laraine Sundin officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in the spring. Memorials may be directed to The Trinity Lutheran Church, Barton City.
