Edward F. Buchanan 89 of Harrisville died Monday, November 20, 2006 at Alpena Regional Medical Center. Born on March 18, 1917 to Francis and Armilda (Panther) Buchanan in Detroit, he was raised there. On July 5, 1941, he married Mary Margaret Ringlein in Detroit. He was employed in finance with several Detroit Area Companies and credit unions before retiring. In 1980 they moved to Harrisville from Detroit. Edward was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, and of the St. Anne Circle, and of the St. Anne Walking Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Alcona Council, #4235, and of the 3rd degree and 4th degree Alpena Assembly #485. He served as historian of the Habitat for Humanity, and was the former Vice President of the Greenbush Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Buchanan was a member of the Friends of the Alcona Library, serving ten years on the library board. He also was a member of St. Vincent De Paul, in Mikado. He is survived by four daughters, Dianna (Chuck) Rabey of Charlotte, Cindy (John) Snody of Walled Lake, Judy (John) Swix of Grand Ledge and Margie (Jeff) McKinney of Ortonville; a son, John (Virginia) of Lake Orion; nineteen grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. His wife Mary preceded him in death on September 20, 1999. A daughter Nancy and a son Richard also preceded him in death. Mr. Buchanan is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where visitation will begin on Friday, November 24 from 2 pm until 9 pm, with a Rosary service at 7 pm.The 4 degree will stand honor guard that evening. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. with Rev. Peter Eke officiating. Burial will be at St. Anne’s Cemetery in Harrisville. Memorials suggested to the Alcona County Library Memorial Fund.
