Russell M. Wallenmaier

Russell M. Wallenmaier, 98, Mikado, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010 at the Alpena Medical Center. Born February 28, 1912 to Eugene and Myra (Slack) Wallenmaier, in South Lyon, MI, he purchased his farm in Mikado in 1934, where he resided until recently. In 1941, he married Hazel Apsey of Lincoln. Russell enjoyed hunting and fishing. An avid baseball player, he played on the Mikado Baseball team for many years. Russell and Hazel made 16 trips to their favorite fishing spots in Alaska. Russell and hazel also wintered in Florida for 18 years. He is survived by his wife; Hazel, daughter; Mary (Al) Poirier, two sons; Eugene (Sierra) Wallenmaier, and Ronald (Gail) Wallenmaier, seven grandchildren; Jarod, Jason (Dawn) and Barry (Kim) Wallenmaier, Lisa (David) Lacorazza, Tracey (Sean) Erbe, Nichole (Nathan) Cline, and Carrie (Johnnie) Hemming, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters; Helen Bosman and Margaret Carnagie, brother; Don, and his grandson Adam Tait. Mr. Wallenmaier is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where friends may call from 12 noon until the funeral service at 2 pm on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Dr. Arie Van Brenk will officiate.
