Alpha Murphy, 80, of Barton City, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2006 at home. Born August 23, 1926 to James and Martha (Brown) Wright in Trosper, Kentucky, she was raised there. In 1946 she moved to Michigan, and resided in the Detroit area, later moving to Flat Rock. She married William John Murphy on December 10, 1970, in Flat Rock. While a resident of Flat Rock, she owned and operated a restaurant and bar. She moved to Barton City in 2000, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Mikado. William preceded her in death in November 2000. She is survived by two daughters; Jonelle (John) Peake of Barton City, and Barbara (Tom) Hungerford of California, 5 grandchildren; Kelly, Shannon, William, Christopher, and Heather, and 12 great grandchildren; Justin, Davis, Lindsay, Ily, Brenda, Zachary, Elizabeth, Kelsey, Michael, Jacob, Luke, and Jack. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great grandson, Christopher Doran Peake and sisters, Nona, Myra, Jane, Elizabeth, Virginia and Hazel; and brothers Joel, Benjamin, Allison, James and John. Mrs. Murphy is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 20, from 2 pm until 8 pm. Visitation continues on Thursday, September 21, from noon until the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Mikado. Rev. Tim Steiner will officiate.
