Walter James “Wally” Maarleveld, 66 of Lincoln, formerly of Bay City, passed away May 5, 2010 at Alpena Regional Medical Center. Born July 16, 1943 to James and Bernice (Gillis) Maarleveld in Bay City, he was raised there. He moved to Flint, where he worked as a conductor and foreman on the railroad. Wally served in the United States Navy from 1962 until 1974, serving during the Vietnam War. On August 22, 1979, he married Noreen Born in Fenton, and they were residents of Flint. In 1997 they moved to Lincoln. Wally was a life member of the Chevrolet Motor Post of the VFW, Post #3087, where he was a past commander, and of the American Legion, Post #254 in Mikado. He enjoyed playing cards, pool, and loved sports. Wally is survived by his wife; Noreen, two sons; Walter Jr. (Chris) Maarleveld of Greenbush, MI, and Scott Maarleveld of Coldwater MI, 5 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and three stepchildren; Anthony Malone of Harrisville, Lee (Lynn) Malone of Flushing, and Coreen (Jim) Resseguie of Fennville, MI. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 1:30 pm at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln. Rev. Dennis Neigh will officiate.
