James “Jack” Allen Shaw, 80, of Harrisville, passed away Monday, January 18, 2010 at his home in Harrisville. Jack was born June 10, 1929 in Davison, MI to Rex and Lela (Hamilton) Shaw. On November 12, 1949 he married Elaine Oskey. Jack was a Staff Sergeant with the United States Marine Corps, and served in Korea and Vietnam, where he received three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star for Bravery. They moved to Alcona County in 1971, settling in Harrisville in 1985. Jack loved the out of doors, and worked 19 years with the U.S. Forestry Service in Harrisville and Oscoda. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 15023, the Disabled American Veterans, Thunder Bay, the Vietnam Veterans of America, the Force Recon Association #217, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Jack is survived by four daughters; Sandra (Arthur) Socher of Fowlerville, Phyllis (Keith) VonFintel of Harrisville, Cheryl Burns of Harrisville, and Jennell Jacobs of Harrisville, 8 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two sisters; Betty (Jack) Biggert of Pentwater, MI, and Madeline Rateau of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his wife on April 21, 2005, and his son; David Allen Shaw on February 23, 1991. Cremation arrangements are in care of Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
