Elwood R. Metheringham, 83, of Lincoln, passed away Monday, November 30, 2009, at his home. Born November 19, 1926 to John and Lyndell (Hastings) Metheringham in Jackson, he was raised in the Jackson area. A longtime resident of Michigan Center, Elwood was employed as a machinist at Clark Equipment Company from 1944 until he retired in 1976. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the South Pacific, with the 86th Black Hawk Division until August of 1946. On July 24, 1948 he married Joyce Williams in Napoleon MI. In 1989, they moved to Lincoln MI. Elwood was a Lay Reader with the Episcopal Church. He was a life member of the VFW Oscoda Post #3735, and of the American Legion Post #0225. He enjoyed being out of doors, especially on his swing. He is survived by his wife Joyce, two daughters; Sharon (Danny) Cathcart of Jackson MI, Nancy Brock of Westmoreland TN, four sons; Lin (Vicki) Metheringham of Lincoln, Martin (Judith) Metheringham of Honor MI, Warren (Shawne) Metheringham of Manistee MI, and John (Jeanette) Metheringham of Phoenix AZ, numerous grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. His beloved dog Carol also survives. He was preceded in death by two sisters; Phyllis Criner and Gertrude Curtis, and two brothers; Donald Metheringham and Jack Metheringham. Cremation arrangements are being handled through Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.
