Velma R. Snyder, 62, of Mikado, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at her home. Born December 4, 1954 to Willie Jr. and Geneva Nickell in West Liberty Kentucky, she was raised in Belleville, MI. She attended Marjons Beauty School in Wayne, MI. On January 4, 1973, Velma married Garold Snyder in Toledo, OH, and they were residents of Belleville. A devoted homemaker, Velma loved spending time with her children, whom she homeschooled, and her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and was a talented seamstress. From 1974 until 1984 she owned and operated Snyder Adult Foster Care in Ypsilanti. In 1993 she moved to Mikado. She attended Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Oscoda. Velma is survived by her husband, Garold, her daughter, Charity Beth Snyder, two sons, Christin Thornton Snyder and Nicholas Scott Snyder, 13 grandchildren, three sisters, Phillis Holsten, Rita (Steve) Colons, and Ann (Charles) Thomas, two brothers Odell (Liz) Nickell, and Wendell (Peggy) Nickell. She was preceded in death by two infant children, Garold Snyder Jr, and Velma Wanda Lee Snyder, and her brother Ralph Douglas Nickell. Mrs. Snyder is at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln where friends may call on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 12:00 PM until the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Rev. Jerry Dodds will officiate. Burial will be in Mikado Cemetery.
