George W. Sweet

George W. Sweet, 96, of Glennie, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at his home. Born April 10, 1913, to Levi and Lucy (Hayes) Sweet in Sanilac MI, he has been a Glennie resident since the age of two. On May 13, 1934, he married Dorene Dafoe in Glennie, where they owned and operated a farm. George also worked in Real Estate, and was the proud owner of George Sweet Realty. He was very active in his community, serving on the Curtis Township Fire Department, and as a Curtis Township Supervisor, He was a former member of the Alcona Seed Growers, and the Alcona County Draft Board. George was an active member of the Glennie Methodist Church. In his free time, George loved baseball, and travelling with his wife, Dorene. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2007. George is survived by his daughter; Donna (Jerry) Erickson of Oscoda, and his son; Neal (Deanne) Sweet of Glennie, six grandchildren; Tony (Ellen) Erickson of CO, Wendy (Steve) Griffith of Tx, Gail Bruhn of MA, Amy (Paul) Odin of TX, Lisa(Robert) Wood of Grand Blanc, and David (Angela) Sweet of Glennie, and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a great granddaughter; Jonna Salcedo, and by nine brothers and sisters. Mr. Sweet is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where visitation will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 4 until 9 PM. Visitation continues on Sunday, October 25 from 12 noon until the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Rev. George Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Glennie Cemetery.
