Richard A. “Dick” Laird, 76, of Harrisville, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 at his home. Born September 8, 1941 to Robert B. and Thelma (Duford) Laird in Flint, MI, he was raised there. In 1959, he joined the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, he began working for General Motors, and retired after 30 years. On October 10, 1987, he married Hester McLaren Hayes in Lincoln, and they were residents of Lincoln and Harrisville. Dick enjoyed his small family farm, especially taking care of his chickens. Dick was a long time member and former officer of both the Ossineke Eagles Aerie 3762 and the Barton City Eagles Aerie 4141. He was also a member of the American Legion Mikado Post #254. He loved to play euchre with family and friends whenever he could. Dick is survived by nine children, Lisa and Garry Hayes of Mikado, Donna (J.D.) Lackey of MS, Robert Laird of MS, Matthew (Rose) Hayes of SC, Kimberly (Carl) Young on IN, Mark Hayes of Holly, MI, Scott (Kim) Laird of Harrisville, MI and Jason Laird of Alpena, MI, 14 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two sisters, Effie Ringler of Flint, MI, and Sherry (Lou) Coggins, of FL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hester on November 16, 2014, and one grandson, Nick Laird. Mr. Laird is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where friends may call on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 12:00 PM until the funeral service at 4:00 PM. Rev. AC Caincross will officiate.
