Mildred Thornton, 79, of East Tawas died Friday, September 25, 2009 at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital. Mildred was born January 9, 1930 in Hamtramck to William and Tessie (Gavron) Fesik. Raised in Hamtramck and Detroit, she married Ralph D. Thornton on September 1, 1955 in Washington MI. They were residents of South Field from 1955 until moving to Farmington Hills in 1962, moving to Glennie in 1985 and to East Tawas in 1996. She was employed for many years as a book keeper and also was employed as a mail carrier from 1967 until 1985. Her husband preceded her in death on March 2, 1999. She is survived by one daughter, Amy Anne Tyler of Tawas City, one son Ralph Thornton Jr. of Dexter, New Mexico four grandchildren and three great grandchildren and two sisters, Zena “Chris” Garcia of Northville, MI and Katherine Bercik of Grand Junction, MI. Visitation will be Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Gillies Funeral home, Lincoln from 1 until 4 P.M. The funeral service will be at 4 P.M.
