Lyman Franklin Boyd

Lyman F. Boyd, 89, of Mikado, died on Friday, July 14th, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by family. Lyman “Frank” was born December 28, 1927, to Beulah (Preston) and Lyman Boyd in Detroit, MI. He was raised in Detroit Michigan. Frank was an extremely hard worker, he gave up his youth to help his father on the farm and with the family excavating business. Later he joined the U.S. Navy as a seaman and worked on mechanics while in Guam. On April 15th, 1948, he married the love of his life Katherine L. King in Baseline, MI (now Warren). They resided in Van Dyke, MI (now Warren) with their family of three until retiring to Mikado, MI. He worked at Ford Motor Company, Sterling Plant as a gauge man and retired in 1980 at the age of 54. Frank was a Christian man and had strong faith in the Lord. He was a Grand Mason and was able to create and build the things he envisioned. He and his wife Katherine loved spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they couldn’t imagine it any other way. He loved to travel, camp, garden, exercise, quilt, learn new things, sing, play cards, drive on the jungle road, play his guitar, drive his tractor, eat home cooked food, watch birds and swing on his swing. Boy oh boy, he had the coldest, best tasting water and the warmest woodstove around. He valued family and his fur buddies equally. He was a man of many talents; he could do anything he put his mind to. He is survived by; his daughter Linda (Jay) Schick of Warren, son Craig Boyd of Mikado, 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, daughter-in-law Chris Boyd of Madison Heights, sister Lois Baker of Mikado, brother Gary and sister in law Betty Boyd of Mikado, sister in law Ada Reichert of Gibraltar, and sister in law Kathy King. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Katherine (King) Boyd, his parents Beulah (Preston) and Lyman Boyd, in laws Cleo and Anna (Koch) King, daughter Pamela (Boyd) Sera and son-in-law Edward Sera, sister Grace (Boyd) and brother in law Lawrence Rapson, sister Betty (Boyd) and brother in law Jim Norman, brother Raymond and sister in law Peggy Boyd, brother in law Jake Baker, sister in law Mary (King) Romano, brother in law Dave Reichert, sister in law Laura (King) Brown, brother in law Donald King, brother in law Harry King. His little buddies; Sandy, Buffy and Pete the Cat. Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday July 22nd from 2:00 to 8:00 pm and Sunday July 23rd visitation from 12:00 PM until the funeral service at 2:00 at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln, MI. Pastor Wayne Whitten will be officiating. Saturday July 29th at 1:00pm service at the chapel in Roseland Park Cemetery on Woodward, in Berkley, MI.
