Sylvia E. Gehres, 105, of Lincoln, passed away Monday, July 3, 2017 at her home. Born April 24, 1912 to August and Eleanor Lasanen in Little Traverse, Michigan, she was raised there. At the age of 18, she moved to Livonia. She moved to Harlem, New York with her friend Marie, where she worked as a cook for a family. After a few years, Sylvia returned to Livonia, where she met and married Leonard Gehres on November 18, 1939. In 1950 they moved to Lincoln. Sylvia was a devoted homemaker, and loved her garden. She enjoyed canning the fruits and vegetables she grew. A member of the Lincoln United Methodist Church, she served as the cleaning person, and was well known for her breads, cloverleaf rolls, and coffee cakes. Sylvia was a wonderful cook, and was especially good at baking pies. Sylvia is survived by her daughter Gail Frusti of California, her son Dennis (Lois) Gehres of Lincoln, five grandchildren, Tina Gehres; Kathy (Rusty) Hale; Debbie (Craig) Mulligan; Steve (Julie) Gehres; and John Gehres, 11 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, and her niece Vicki (Bill) Reynolds of Alpena. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 1975, her son Gary Gehres in 1945, and by 13 brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln. Rev. Margaret Fox officiated. Memorial donations are suggested to the Lincoln United Methodist Church.
