Jason Hodges

Jason Hodges, M.D. 92, of Harrisville, formerly of Grosse Pointe Woods, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2009 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Saginaw after a short illness. He was born December 3, 1916 to “Dr J.” and Frances (McNeff) Hodges in Detroit. Dr. Hodges earned his medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1941, and served four years as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Army Aircorps. He achieved the rank of “captain” and was awarded two bronze stars while serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He practiced general family medicine out of St. John’s and Saratoga Hospitals in the Detroit area for forty-three years before retiring in 1984. He also served the residents of Alcona County as medical examiner for fourteen years. Dr. Hodges was an avid fly fisherman and a member of Lost Lake Woods Club. He was also an active member and officer in the Alcona Historical Society for many years. Dr. Hodges is survived by his beloved wife; Rheta L. Hodges, his daughter; Pamela Thomson of Mesa, AZ, his son; Jere Hodges of Chesterfield MI, and his stepchildren; Leonard Doolittle, Madeline Plemmons, Peter Wittstock, Timothy Wittstock, and David Wittstock, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife; Bennye Elizabeth Hodges, and his eldest stepdaughter; Connie L. Westcott. His generosity and humble service to so many will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. Dr. Hodges is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln where visitation will take place on Friday, September 25, 2009 from 2pm until the funeral service at 4pm. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Detroit.
