Thomas David Tarr of Houghton Lake died Thursday, April 20, 2017. He was 52. Tom was born February 28, 1965, in Grayling. He is survived by his parents, Bill and Mary Tarr of Grayling; sister, Dena (Dan) LeBlanc of Belding, Mich.; brother, Tim Tarr of Houghton Lake; nephew, Matthew LeBlanc of Eugene, Ore.; niece, Sarah LeBlanc of Belding; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Tom worked at R.O.O.C. Sheltered Workshop in Roscommon since 1991, where he enjoyed the companionship of numerous coworkers and staff. He enjoyed participating in numerous Special Olympic events, and area A.R.C. Association events, especially the dances. He had a special knack for recalling the dates of prominent, and occasionally obscure, national and family events. He was rarely wrong when referencing a date on a calendar. He also had a peculiar fascination with Life Magazine – the older, the better. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date. The family asks that those wishing to honor Tom’s memory with a tribute do so by donating to Towering Oaks Assisted Living in Houghton Lake, R.O.O.C. Sheltered Workshop in Roscommon, or Special Olympics. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.
