Foster Wakeman, 85, of Spruce, MI, formerly of Midland, MI and snowbird resident of Holiday, FL passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in his home April 7, 2017. Born November 26, 1931 to Earl & Shirley (Gaunt) Wakeman in Hartland, MI was raised in Spruce, MI. As a young man Foster was a teacher in a one room school house in Spruce. Later he served his country in the U.S. Army. While stationed in Austria he met his wife Frances Biergeder where they married on May 21, 1955. The couple raised a family in Midland, MI where Foster worked and retired from Dow Chemical in 1995. Soon thereafter his wife preceded him in death on August 24, 1997. In retirement Foster enjoyed golfing, gardening, and traveling. Foster was a loving man, who was very outgoing, and loved to socialize. He was a kind and genuine man who enjoyed his life and was loved by his family & friends. He is survived by his daughter, Karen (Dan) Scherzer of Freeland, MI, Gary (Carmen) Wakeman of Newport NC, and Earl (Ingrid) Wakeman of Hartland, MI, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one sister, Margaret Heffelfinger of Holiday, FL, and his loving companion, Doris Biergeder, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents & brother, Donald "Friday" Wakeman. Cremation arrangements were made through Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Michigan.
