Jerome W. Brown, 78, of Harrisville, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, at MidMichigan Medical Center in Alpena. Born November 14, 1938, to Wilfred E. and Viola C. (Gansen) Brown in Dearborn, MI, he was raised in Howell, MI. Jerry served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a long time resident of Howell, where he sang with a Barbershop Quartet, and later a resident of Brighton. He worked as a millwright with General Motors for 29 years, retiring in 2001 and moving to Harrisville. He married Marilyn Merck on January 22, 1982. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2012. Jerry was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Harrisville, where he was a former deacon, and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a member of Alcona Lodge #292 F. & A.M., where he was known for preparing the swiss steak dinners and cooking the hot dogs at the annual golf outing. Jerry was an avid woodcarver, and was a member of the Sunrise Side Woodcarvers in Oscoda, and was on the area committee for the Boy Scouts of America. On June 17, 2013, he married Mary Rouse in Harrisville. Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary, two daughters, Tina Marsh of Golden CO, and Debbie Nelson of Howell, MI, two sons, William Brown of Cheboygan, MI, and James (Julie) Heacock of Milan, MI, six grandchildren, Andy Brown; Aaron Schaefer; Amanda Nelson; Alex Nelson; Abby Marsh; and Ashley Nelson, two great grandchildren, Adrian Brown and Kayden Purdy, three stepsons, John (Karen) Rouse of Oscoda; Darwin (Katherine) Rouse of Arcadia MO, and Howard (Gail) Rouse of Fairview, TX, as well as 17 step grandchildren and numerous step great grandchildren, and his sister, Marie McKnight of Fowlerville, MI. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom; Bob; and Louie Brown. There will be a Memorial Service and a Masonic Service on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Harrisville beginning at 11:00 AM. Rev. Ken Krause will officiate.
