Sheryl L. McCoy, 50, of Black River, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 at MidMichigan Medical Center, Alpena. Born September 16, 1966 to Ralph and Darlene (Leverenz) Tolan in Port Huron, MI, she was raised there. After graduating from high school, she moved to the Ossineke area, and has been a longtime resident of Black River. Sheryl worked as a grocery manager at Neiman’s Family Market in Alpena. She loved the outdoors, especially camping and fishing. She was an avid sports fan, and coached youth soccer for 14 years. She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Black River. Sheryl was foremost a devoted mother, who loved spending time with her family. She is survived by three sons, Christopher (Jillian Samotis) McCoy; Jordan (Sarah Kowalewsky) McCoy; and Conner (Hayley Conner) McCoy, her mother, Darlene (Michael) Chadkewicz, two sisters, Barbara (James) Arthur and Diane Prater, many nieces and nephews, and her father and mother-in-law, Bill and Gloria McCoy. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Tolan. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Black River from 12:00 PM until the funeral mass at 2:00 PM. Rev. Robert Bissot will officiate. Burial will be in Sanborn Township Cemetery, later in the spring.
