Donald E. Umphrey, 64, of Mikado, passed away Thursday May 4, 2006 at his home. Born on January 28, 1942 to Melvin and Charlesetta (McLeod) Umphrey in Flint he was raised in Mikado. He was a graduate of Oscoda High School. After high school, Don joined the United States Navy, and he served his country in the Vietnam War. On January 19, 1963, he married Viola Gleason in Mikado, where they made there home. He is survived by his wife Viola, three daughters, Nadine (Joe) Lawrence of Wolverine, Nanette Umphrey of Rochester, and Nancy Gansen of Oscoda, two sons, Dennis of Mikado and Denny (Stephanie) Ranger of Whittemore, one grandchild and one great grandchild; two brothers, Billy (Phyllis Tebo) of Harrisville, and Mike (Lois) of Oscoda. Mr. Umphrey is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, where visitation will take place on Saturday from 7-9 pm and on Sunday from 5-9 pm. Funeral Service will be on Monday at 2 pm, at the Solid Rock Church of God, Harrisville, with Rev. David Morrison officiating. Burial will be in Mikado Cemetery.
