Melvin Bailey Malone,93,Black River died Sunday, August 16 2009 at home. He was born March 30, 1916 in Alabama. In 1938 he married Geraldine "Charlotte" Smith. An army Veteran of WWII, Mr. Malone worked in construction and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 234. He had been a resident of Alabama,Arkansas,Flint before moviing to Black River. His wife preceded him in death as did his son; Dwaine, sister; Betty Oliver and three brothers; Sam, Herman, and Tom. Survivors include one daughter; Sharon (Butch)Harper,Mt. Morris; one son; Gary (Donna)Malone, Black River, eleven grandchildren and their spouses, 19 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. and Wednesday from Noon until the funeral at 2:00 P.M. at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln.Rev. Tom Welscott will officiate. A masonic serive will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday. He was a member of the Fellowship Lodge #490 Free and Accepted Masons where he had been a past master. He had served as chaplin of the Grand Lodge. Burial services will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc on Thursday at 4 P.M.
