James Michael Crick

September 29, 1938 — February 3, 2017

James Michael Crick (Mike) died February 3, 2017 following a brief illness. Mike was born in Alpena on September 29, 1938 to the late Eldon and Margaret (Miller) Crick. Mike was raised in Alpena, attended St. Bernard’s elementary school and Alpena High School. He graduated from Rose City High School. He later graduated from what was then Ferris State College. When Mike was a senior at Ferris he received the Wall Street Journal Award for Outstanding Commerce Student which was presented by AG Frank Kelley. Of all of Mike’s various jobs, his favorite was being Director of Special Projects at Alpena Community College. He was responsible for projects ranging from the installation of Paul Bunyon to building the World Center for Concrete Technology. Mike is survived by his wife, Joan (Boucher) Crick, his daughter and her husband, Heidi and David Bauermeister, granddaughters Gretchen and Katrina Bauermeister, a daughter-in-law, Kathy Sanborn, one sister, Mary Spence (C.R. Yockey). He is also survived by in-laws, Ann Boucher (E.J. Connolly) and Robert (Sue) Boucher along with several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his son, Michael S. Crick, and sister, Sally Crick McHugh. Mike was active in his community and enjoyed volunteering. He was one of the founding members of Recycle Alcona, Inc. serving as president for many years. Currently he was on the Board of Directors serving as treasurer. He was a member of the Harbor Commission in Harrisville and a past member of the Planning Commission. Mike was a current board member of Child and Family Services of NE Michigan. In addition, Mike was active in the Harrisville United Methodist Church. Mike loved anything on wheels, ice cream, anything sweet, having a fire in the fireplace, cooking, MSNBC, and talking to his granddaughters. His humor and gentle spirit will be missed. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at the Harrisville United Methodist Church on May 27th at 1:00. Those who wish may direct donations to the Michael S.
