Lawrence A. Goddard, 88, of Harrisville, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at his home. Born May 8, 1921 to John and Carrie (Struthers) Goddard in Mikado, he was a lifelong resident of Alcona County. Lawrence served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as an operating engineer and as a farmer. On April 2, 1984, he married Ina Ruth Wright in Texas, and they were residents of Harrisville. An avid outdoorsman, Lawrence loved to hunt. He was a loving father and grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his family, and his dogs. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Ruth, one son and one daughter, stepchildren; Bud (Jackie) Kelly of Rose City, MI, Carol Henson, Nancy (Roger) Willson, Pat (Ralph) Garland, and Terry (Sam) Rizzotto, several grandchildren, and great grandchildren, two brothers; Elwood and John Goddard and one sister; Eunice Silverthorn. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. There will be a Memorial Service at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln, on Monday, August 17, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Family will begin receiving visitors at noon. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Michigan, northeastern unit.
