Shirley Anna Lauginiger, 81, of Hubbard Lake, MI, passed away, Friday, April 28, with her family by her side. She was born April 18, 1925 in Detroit to Joseph and Barbara Fournier. As a child growing up during the depression, Shirley knew the value of every penny, as well as the meaning of hard work, and was able to raise a family on limited means. She worked as a waitress and later owned a restaurant, and two Antique shops. Shirley had an enterprising spirit, and most recently exercised it by inventing and selling golf counters. In her retirement she and husband Ed moved to Hubbard Lake, Michigan to enjoy fishing and the outdoor life. Shirley loved the camaraderie of friends and family, and was rarely without company. A member of Lost Lakes Wood club, she golfed and made many close friends. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Shirley possessed great common sense, and had the ability to put people at ease. Many sought her counsel; her easy manner and sound advice will be sorely missed. Shirley’s warm smile and friendly manner will not be forgotten, as she made the world a better place for all who knew her. Shirley leaves behind three children; Richard (Claudette) Brower, Barbara (Rick) Statham and Patricia (Ray) Russie. Her six grandchildren include Alex Brower and Kerry Brower, Micke (Rhonda) Statham, as well as Rick Statham, Paul Statham and Gordie Statham. Shirley leaves behind nine great-grandchildren. Nephew Craig Fournier and wife Lauree and daughter Kristie were very close. Other nephews and nieces include John, Susie and Nancy Fournier, Gary and Cherie Schmidt, Julie and Owen Gay, and Mike McCune. Shirley was preceded in death by all of her siblings; two brothers, Paul and Edward, and four sisters, Adele, Eleanor, Leona and Marie. Shirley lost her husband, Edward, of 20 years in December, 2000, after caring for him through a long illness. Viewings will be held at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln MI on Friday 4-9pm and Saturday 1-5pm. A celebration of her life will begin at 5pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers you may make donations to Heartland Hospice Services 25888 Northwestern Hwy, Southfield MI 48034
