Karl T. Thum, 49, of Mikado, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Alpena Regional Medical Center. Karl was born July 7, 1960 in Harrisville to Franz and Vivian (Emerson) Thum. A lifelong Mikado resident, Karl married Debra Sweet on December 10, 2008. He was a member of the Mikado Fire Department, joining at age 18, and loved to hunt and fish. He was employed by Northern Precision of Lincoln for 22 years. Karl loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with his son and grandchildren. Karl is survived by his wife, and one son; Kyle Thum of Mikado, two step daughters; Jennifer(Jerry) Lee of Oscoda and Erica (Rich) Snay of Grand Rapids, five grandchildren; Austin Lee, Patrick Lee, Connor Lee, Isaac Trout and Kincade Trout, his mother; Vivian Thum of Mikado, one sister, Kim (Tim) Coggins of Traverse City, one brother, Keith (LouAnn) Thum of Mikado as well as several aunt uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Visitation will be Saturday from 3-9 P.M. and Sunday from 4-9 P.M. at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln. The funeral will be Monday at the funeral home at 11:00 A.M.
