Thelma Ann Jacques, 97, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Kelly’s Care Home in Alpena. Born March 3, 1912, to William and Philomena (Burebe) Boucher in Lincoln, she was a lifelong resident of Alcona County. She attended Tawas Normal, and Harrisville High School, where she was named Valedictorian. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Central Michigan University. Thelma worked in the Oscoda and Alcona Community School Systems as an elementary school teacher. She was very instrumental in the establishment of the Head Start Program. She retired in 1977, as one of the top 500 outstanding teachers in America. Thelma was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Harrisville, where she was involved in the building of the church. Thelma is survived by her son; Patrick (Raleigh) Jacques of Alpena, 2 grandchildren; Elizabeth Schmanski, and Catherine Jacques and 2 great grandchildren; Jane and Jack Schmanski. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972, her son; John Paul in 1972, five brothers; Arthur, Thomas, Walter, Paul and Roy Boucher, and three sisters; Leora Boucher, Mary Cote and Delia Gilbert. Mrs. Jacques is at Gillies Funeral Home, Lincoln where visitation will take place on Monday, July 6 from 4 until 9 pm, with a Rosary service at 7pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday July 7 at the funeral home at 9:00 am, until the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Harrisville. Rev. Lawrence Boks will officiate. Burial will be in St. Anne Catholic Cemetery, Harrisville. Memorial donations suggested to Habitat for Humanity.
