Mary Ellen Ackerson Sefernick, 90, of Spruce, passed away Wednesday, April 5 at Alpena Regional Medical Center. Born on January 10, 1916 to James and Grace (Westover) Simpson in Butman, Michigan, she was raised in Redford. Mary was a Registered Nurse who was very dedicated to her profession. On February 17 1940, she married Raymond Ackerson, they were residents of Arizona. Mr. Ackerson preceded her in death in February of 1981. In March of 1982 she moved to Spruce. In January 1992 she married Joe Sefernick. He preceded her in death in July 4, 1996. Mary was a member of the South Shore Ladies Club, where she was very involved in Bingo. She attended the Hubbard Lake Baptist Church. Mary enjoyed China painting, and was a former member of the Higgins Lake China Painters club. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, her family will always remember her for her loving temperament. She is survived by 6 daughters; Mary (Jerry) Elliott of Highland, Jackie (Rolland) Lynch of Spruce, Suzie (John) Hinde of Vassar, Nancy (Randy) Gale of Grand Rapids, Grace (Larry) Kalk of Oconto Wisconsin, Nina Ackerson of San Diego California, 3 sons; Raymond (Beth) Ackerson of Troy, Art (Paulette) Ackerson of Grand Rapids, Robert (Karen) Ackerson of Holly, 4 step-daughters; Sharon (Sid) Rimatzki of Spruce, Janice (Tom) Malenfont of Ossineke, Sue Lentz of St. Clair, and Jennifer Skuse of Port Huron, 26 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends. A Memorial service was held on Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the Hubbard Lake Baptist Church, at 2:00 pm. Pat Anderson, Elder officiated. Cremation arrangements were handled by Gillies Funeral Home.
